Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Dearnode, Inc. ("dearnode", "we", "us", or "our") handles personal information for all products we operate, including Orbit for Mac and any future products we ship.

We try to keep this short and honest. If anything here is unclear, write to us at support@dearnode.com.

1. Data controller

The data controller for personal information collected through any Dearnode product is:

2. What we do not collect

For most of our products, the content you work with stays on your device or with the third-party services you connect to. Specifically:

  • Orbit for Mac connects your Google Workspace accounts (Gmail, Calendar, Drive) directly through Google. Your email content, calendar events, and files do not pass through Dearnode servers. Authentication tokens stay in macOS Keychain on your device.
  • For future products, we will document any data we touch in the same way, and update this policy.

3. What we do collect

To operate our products and run the business, we collect a small set of information.

Account and purchase information

  • Email address, used to deliver license keys, receipts, and product communications.
  • Name, billing address, country (collected by our payment processor for tax purposes).
  • Purchase history (product, price, date, license type).

License validation

  • An anonymous device identifier generated locally on your device, used to enforce per-license device limits.
  • Activation timestamps.

The device identifier is not linked to your name, hardware serial, or any other identifier we can use to profile you.

Optional diagnostics

  • If you opt in, anonymised crash reports and performance telemetry. This is off by default and can be turned off at any time in product settings.

Support correspondence

  • If you contact support@dearnode.com, we keep your message and our reply so we can follow up.

4. Payments

All payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. Stripe is PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant. Dearnode never receives or stores your full card number. We receive a confirmation that payment succeeded, plus the metadata listed in section 3.

5. Sub-processors

We use the following third parties to run our service. Each has its own privacy obligations.

6. International transfers

Dearnode is based in the United States. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with data transfer rules, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.

For such transfers we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and equivalent safeguards.

7. How long we keep your data

  • Purchase and tax records: seven years, as required by tax law.
  • Support correspondence: two years from the last message.
  • Optional crash and telemetry data: up to twelve months.
  • License activation records: for the lifetime of the license, plus thirty days after the license is terminated.
  • License validation logs: seven days (Orbit and future products use a short-lived log for rate limiting and abuse prevention).

8. Your rights

Regardless of where you live, you can ask us to:

  • Show you the information we hold about you.
  • Correct anything that is wrong.
  • Delete your account and associated personal data, subject to tax retention obligations above.
  • Export your data in a portable format (CSV or JSON).

If you are in the EU, UK, California, or another region with additional rights (objection, restriction, lodging a complaint with a supervisory authority), those rights apply to you as well.

To exercise any of these rights, write to support@dearnode.com. We respond within thirty days.

9. Security

We use TLS in transit for all connections, encrypted storage at rest with our infrastructure providers, and least-privilege access controls internally. No system is perfectly secure, but we take security seriously and disclose breaches as required by applicable law.

10. Children

Dearnode products are not directed to children under sixteen. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under that age. If you believe we have, write to support@dearnode.com and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email or in-product notice at least fourteen days before the change takes effect.
